Wicked Director Has 2 Big Reasons For Fans To Get Excited For The Sequel

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in WickedWicked director Jon M Chu has teased what fans can expect from the new songs that will be featured in the long-awaited sequel.The follow-up to last year’s hit blockbuster is based on the second half of the Wicked stage musical, and will be titled Wicked For Good.As well as staples like No Good Deed, As Long As You’re Mine and For Good, from which the sequel earned its name, it was previously reported that, unlike the first film, part two will feature new songs written especially for the movie.And Chu has now revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that one of these will be performed by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, while the other will be sung by Glinda, the character played by Ariana Grande.View this post on InstagramA post shared by Vanity Fair (@vanityfair)Both of these songs were penned by Stephen Schwartz, the composer of the original Wicked music, who also wrote an extended section of One Short Day for the first film, which was performed on screen by the OG Elphaba and Glinda, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth.Chu said: “When we first met, the girls came to my house in person and sang For Good on my piano. The other half of the story that we never tell is that Stephen played their songs for them for the first time there as well.“He’s sitting there, and he is like, ‘Would you guys like to hear the songs I’m thinking of for you?’ And they were like, ‘Yes, please’.”Cynthia Erivo, Jon M.
