Keri Russell in character as Kate Wyler in The DiplomatThis article contains major spoilers for the third season of The Diplomat. If you’re one of the many fans, critics, or awards-giver-outers who loves The Diplomat, chances are you’re dying to know what the future holds for the show after season three’s agonising cliffhanger. The show stars US actor Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, a newly appointed US ambassador to the UK, who has to navigate the dicey politics of her work and personal life. With the latest season wrapped, we’ve entered investigation mode to round up everything we know about Netflix’s political thriller and whether a new one is on the cards. Consider us your entertainment ambassador... Will there be a season four of The Diplomat on Netflix? To the relief of everyone, yes. Netflix has already confirmed the show will be back for a new run of episodes, with showrunner and executive producer Debora Cahn expressing her excitement to get stuck back in.“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” she told Netflix. “We get to the end of a season and I always think, ‘Well, there’s no way that we can do this again.’ And then we dig back into it, and it’s like, ‘Oh my God, we have to keep going.’”We agree...Rufus Sewell and Keri Russell in The Diplomat season 3Who is in the cast of The Diplomat season 4 so far?Netflix has confirmed that West Wing legends Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford have been bumped up to series regulars in the next run of episodes, so expect to see their dynamic as President Grace Penn and first husband Todd Penn play out even more in season four.We also know that Keri will reprise her leading role as Kate alongside her on-screen husband Rufus Sewell.Showrunner Debora enthused: “Working with Allison and Brad, watching them together again, and the off-the-charts foursome that is them with Keri and Rufus… It’s an insane bag of candy. Our expectations were high, and it blew right past them.”The new season of The Diplomat reunites former West Wing co-stars Allison Janney and Bradley WhitfordWe’re also assuming it will be a return for most of The Diplomat’s regulars, including: David Gyasi (Austin), Ali Ahn (Eidra), Ato Essandoh (Stuart), Rory Kinnear (Nicol), Aidan Turner (Callum), Tracy Ifeachor (Thema), Pandora Colin (Lydia), Nana Mensah (Billie), Miguel Sandoval (Miguel), Rosaline Elbay (Nora) and Alysia Reiner (Ivy). As for who isn’t returning, it’s safe to say that we won’t be seeing a return for Celia Imrie, after her character died at the end of season three. Sadly, it seems we've seen the last of Celebrity Traitors fave Celia Imrie in The DiplomatWhat will season 4 of The Diplomat be about? The Diplomat looks set to turn up the pressure even more when it returns, as Kate grapples with the new American president, played by Allison Janney, and all the power struggles and second guessing that come with this transatlantic relationship. There’s also the small matter of the potential acts of war involving Russia, Britain and America that Kate has to deal with thanks to the President’s questionable decisions and motives we saw at the end of season three.Netflix has teased: “As Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, she finds herself with a whole new set of expectations and obstacles. The season three finale suggests The Diplomat will weather more complications than ever in season four.” Debora also made it clear that fans won’t be in for an easy watch, warning: “[Fans] should be worried. There’s plenty to worry about.“It can be pretty chilling when you see who takes power and get the sense that they may be horrifically misusing it.”When is season 4 of The Diplomat out? While we don’t have an exact date for the new season just yet, we know that The Diplomat starts production in autumn (aka. right about now), so it shouldn’t be too long to wait. So far, all three seasons of the show have dropped a year apart from each other (2023, 2024 and 2025), with the last two seasons both landing in October of their respective years. If Netflix sticks to that pattern, we could see season four on our screens around October 2026. You can watch all three seasons of The Diplomat now on Netflix.MORE NETFLIX:These Are Our 11 Top Picks Of The New Shows And Films To Stream On Netflix In October 202511 Behind-The-Scenes Secrets You Probably Never Knew About How House Of Guinness Was MadeThought The Stars Of The Woman In Cabin 10 Cast Looked Familiar?
