Delhi awoke to a thick haze the morning after the Diwali festival, when people across the country let off fireworks and firecrackers to celebrate the festival of lights. It marked the beginning of the pollution season, which has become an annual blight on India’s capital.The sudden decline in air quality came after the newly elected regional Delhi government relaxed the rules around fireworks and firecrackers, citing religious tradition.
