Suspect dead after shooting at Blackstone and KPMG building, NYPD says

Police put up caution tape near 345 Park Avenue as the NYPD investigates reports of a shooting.John Lamparski/Getty ImagesShots were fired in the area of 345 Park Avenue on Monday evening, the NYPD said.The building in midtown Manhattan houses several major businesses, including Blackstone and KPMG.NYPD said on X that the "lone shooter" was dead.A suspect is dead after shots were fired on Monday at a building in New York that houses several major businesses, including Blackstone and KPMG, the New York Police Department said.The shooting incident occurred at 345 Park Avenue at around 6:30 p.m., a spokesperson for the NYPD confirmed to Business Insider.NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said on X at 7:52 p.m. that the scene was contained. NYPD said in another X post that "the lone shooter is dead."A law enforcement source told BI that multiple people were shot, including a police officer.Mayor Eric Adams also said in a post on X that people had been shot and that he would be visiting the hospital. In a video shared from the scene, Adams said police were carefully searching the building and asked that anyone inside remain there during the search.An NYPD spokesperson said the department was investigating and would hold a press conference to share additional details.NYPD said the shooter was neutralized.Barry Williams/New York Daily News/Tribune News Service/Getty ImagesPhotos and videos posted on social media showed a large police presence at the scene, with officers appearing to enter the building.In a post on X, the NYPD asked the public to avoid the area of East 52nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue due to police activity and emergency vehicles in the area.This story is developing.
