The death of Denzil Meyrick in February at the age of 59 robbed Scotland of one of its most cherished crime writers. Beginning with Whisky From Small Glasses in 2012, his series of novels set in the town of Kinloch, based on Meyrick’s childhood home of Campbeltown, has become a cornerstone of Scottish crime writing, the dour and introspective DCI Jim Daley arguably second only to Inspector Rebus in the reading public’s affections.
