Letters: Putin hates freedom and democracy. There will be no peace until he is dead
GEORGE Morton (letters, May 4) does not understand why free countries of Europe wish to protect Ukraine against invasion, looting, murder, torture, rape, and the deportation of children. One reason is that invasion, looting, murder, torture, rape, and the deportation of children are wrong and cause unnecessary distress. Another reason is that the dictator and military commander of the Russian Federation hates our freedom and democracy as much as he hates the freedom and democracy of Ukraine, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Czechia, Slovakia, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, France and Italy. He is engaged in extensive sabotage of infrastructure in all these countries and in Britain. An example of this hostility is Russia’s constant attacks on seabed communication cables under the Baltic Sea. A Ukrainian journalist has just been returned from Russian custody, dead, and her brain and eyes have not been returned. That is some attempt to conceal what happened to her in Russian custody. There will be neither peace nor safety until Putin is dead and Russian naval power is eliminated in the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, and the Sea of Azov. Tim Cox, Bern, Switzerland.
