Scoop: Dan Scavino takes over hiring in Trump's White House

Senior Trump adviser Dan Scavino is taking over as director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office — an influential role charged with staffing the administration, Axios has learned.Why it matters: Scavino is Trump's longest-serving aide, having worked for the president since 2015, when Trump rode down an escalator in New York's Trump Tower and announced his first White House bid.Zoom in: Scavino succeeds Sergio Gor, whom Trump is nominating to be ambassador to India.What they're saying: "Dan Scavino is one of President Trump's most trusted and longest serving advisers. There is nobody better to ensure the the President's administration is staffed with the most qualified, competent, and America First-driven workers," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Axios."There is much still to be done and Dan's leadership will ensure the highest quality, most dedicated workforce ever," she added. The backstory: Scavino got his start in Trump's orbit in the early 2000s by running one of the president's golf clubs.He was director of social media during Trump's first campaign, a role he also held during the first Trump White House. Among other things, Scavino ran Trump's Twitter account.He was one of the few aides to remain by Trump's side after the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol, and he worked on Trump's 2024 campaign.Scavino has been a White House deputy chief of staff in the current administration.What's next: A source familiar with the hire says Scavino will "scrutinize the current staff and personnel changes that happen as the office transitions to a new leadership and structure."
