The backstory: Scavino got his start in Trump's orbit in the early 2000s by running one of the president's golf clubs.He was director of social media during Trump's first campaign, a role he also held during the first Trump White House. Among other things, Scavino ran Trump's Twitter account.He was one of the few aides to remain by Trump's side after the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol, and he worked on Trump's 2024 campaign.Scavino has been a White House deputy chief of staff in the current administration.What's next: A source familiar with the hire says Scavino will "scrutinize the current staff and personnel changes that happen as the office transitions to a new leadership and structure."
