United flights across U.S. hit by FAA ground stops after "technology issue"

United Airlines travelers faced delays after the Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for United flights at major U.S. airports on Wednesday evening.The big picture: "Due to a technology issue, we are holding United mainline flights at their departure airports," United said in a media statement. "We expect additional flight delays this evening as we work through this issue. Safety is our top priority, and we'll work with our customers to get them to their destinations," the statement said.All flights already in the air were continuing to their destinations and regional express flights were unaffected during network outage, according to the statement.Zoom in: Affected airport hubs include Chicago, Denver, Houston, Newark, New Jersey, and San Francisco, per the FAA.Editor's note: This is a breaking news story.
