'A Shambles Of A Government': David Lammy Under Fire After Another Prisoner Accidentally Released

Keir Starmer and David Lammy are now both under pressure after another prisoner was accidentally released.Justice secretary David Lammy has been slammed after a second foreign national was accidentally released from prison.It comes just days after migrant sex offender, Hadush Kebatu, sparkerd a huge manhunt after he was also mistakenly freed by the prison service.Lammy refused to say whether the latest mix-up had happened despite being asked about it five times in the Commons by shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge.Cartlidge said: “Can he reassure the House that since Kebatu was released no other asylum-seeking offender has been accidentally let out of prison? Can you answer the question, deputy prime minister?”Dodging the question, Lammy replied: “I’ve got to tell you, I spent 14 years in opposite and I did a hell of a lot better than he’s just done. I have answered the question. Under their watch, prisons were in a mess.”Moments later, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 24-year-old Algerian man had been “released in error” from Wandsworth Prison on October 29.“Officers are carrying out urgent enquiries in an effort to locate him and return him to custody,” the Met said.According to Sky News, the prisoner was serving time for trespass with an intent to steal but has previously committed sexual offences.Posting on X, Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said: “James Cartlidge asked the Deputy PM FIVE times to tell us if ANOTHER migrant sex offender had been accidentally released from prison. Instead of answering, Lammy lost his temper. Now we read it HAS happened again & he’s been on the run for a week. That is why I have already brought in the strongest checks ever to clamp down on such failures and ordered an independent investigation, led by Dame Lynne Owens to uncover what went wrong and address the rise in accidental releases which has persisted for too long.“This latest incident exposes deeper flaws across the failing criminal justice system we inherited.
