Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley on the set of 2002's Bend It Like BeckhamAmid the current sea of sequels, reboots and remakes that continues to flood the box office, you’d be forgiven if you’re struggling to keep up with which films are being revived in various different ways.But for fans of a certain sports comedy from the early 2000s, there’s one piece of news you’re not going to want to miss.Over the weekend, Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha revealed she was planning a sequel to the hot movie.Gurinder made the admission to the BBC in Basel, Switzerland, where England’s Lionesses shot to victory for the second time in the Euro 2025 tournament on Sunday evening.The filmmaker claimed that Bend It Like Beckham has been “part of changing the game for women” in football, “so it felt like this was a good time for me to go back and investigate the characters”.She added that she was hoping to release the follow-up in 2027, commemorating both 25 years of Bend It Like Beckham and the next Fifa Women’s World Cup, which is due to take place in Brazil in two years’ time.Gurinder ChadhaGurinder said: “A lot has changed since the original movie, but I think that people still don’t think that women should play football.
