Charli XCX Raises Eyebrows With Cryptic Post After Taylor Swift's Rumoured 'Diss Track'
Charli XCXCharli XCX has teased that she’s back in the studio, after inadvertently finding herself in the headlines due to one particular song on the new Taylor Swift album.Last year, Charli unveiled her hit album Brat, which featured the song Sympathy Is A Knife, in which she reflected on how being around Taylor when they were both dating members of The 1975 triggered some of her insecurities for a number of reasons. While Sympathy Is A Knife wasn’t disparaging about Taylor, and the Shake It Off singer had been complimentary about Charli since it was released, a track on her new album The Life Of A Showgirl appeared to take aim at the British singer. On the new song Actually Romantic, Taylor could be heard singing: “I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave,” Taylor sang in the song’s opening lyric. “[You] high-fived my ex and then you said you’re glad he ghosted me. [You] wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face.”Taylor SwiftCharli has remained tight-lipped since Actually Romantic was released last week, and her team declined to comment when contacted by HuffPost UK on Friday. However, on Sunday afternoon, she shared a timely five-second clip from a recording studio, hinting that she had new material on the way.<3 pic.twitter.com/sQxZVzikzm— Charli (@charli_xcx) October 5, 2025The post was accompanied by a cryptic caption that featured just a heart, but that didn’t stop many fans from jumping to the conclusion that Charli was quickly working on a response to Actually Romantic.pic.twitter.com/aSRb2jJERm— Guibisx (@guibisx) October 5, 2025pic.twitter.com/qwpO9WoDVN— Diega (@diegoesc97) October 5, 2025WE LOVE YOU CHARLI pic.twitter.com/lhrvsrmq4x— ella (@lust4lyife) October 5, 2025Ok Kendrick XCX !!! pic.twitter.com/prqfaFNJ7O— tweetnyc (@cool_black_kid) October 5, 2025UR NOT LIKE US IS LOADING pic.twitter.com/L3qnIVJh5d— fawna | 285 days ☀️🪽 (@godisafawna) October 5, 2025she did exactly that pic.twitter.com/tkNjxEb1z9https://t.co/4MmzhWjBgb— keshawn (@shawnzlyfe) October 5, 2025Now THIS is how you clap back. I just wanted to come on here and clarify that there aren’t.“The tracks in question aren’t diss tracks, they’re really just about how it’s so complicated being an artist, especially a female artist, where you are pitted against your peers but also expected to be best friends with every single person constantly, and if you’re not, you’re, like, deemed a bad feminist. And that, to me, is such an unrealistic expectation.“So yeah, these songs are about as a woman, as an artist, some days you can feel on top of the world, some days you can feel unbelievably insecure. Other days you can feel highly competitive, some days you can feel like literal trash, and it’s really emotional and complicated to deal with, and you’re not supposed to talk about it, but these songs do talk about it. And I’ll probably be chastised for that.”READ MORE:This Is Why Fans Think Taylor Swift Is Dissing Charli XCX On The Life Of A ShowgirlHere's Everything That's Gone Down Between Taylor Swift And Charli XCX After Diss Track Actually RomanticA ‘Triumph’ Or ‘Dull Razzle-Dazzle’?
