Donald Trump holds the signed trade agreement alongside Keir Starmer at the G7 summit.Donald Trump has revealed the reason why the UK is “very well protected” from the tariffs he has slapped on imports entering America.The US president gave an insight into his thinking as he declared that the trade agreement between the two countries is finally “done”.An outline agreement was struck by Trump and Keir Starmer last month following months of negotiations, but the final details still needed to be ironed out.The deal will see the tariff on British cars entering the US market slashed from 25% to 10%.However, an agreement on reducing import taxes on British steel and aluminium products from 25% to zero – compared to the global rate of 50% – has yet to be finalised.Speaking at the G7 summit in Canada after holding talks with Starmer, Trump said said: “The UK is very well protected, you know why? Because I like them. That’s their ultimate protection.”Standing alongside the president, the PM said: “Donald, thank you very much… A really important agreement.
