Gal Gadot Clarifies Comments About Snow White Flopping At The Box Office And Israel
Gal Gadot at the Snow White premiere in MarchGal Gadot has spoken out after raising eyebrows with recent comments she made about her film Snow White’s underperformance at the box office.Earlier this year, the Israeli performer played the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action remake of the animated classic, opposite Rachel Zegler in the title role. It’s been well-documented that the movie’s release was a troubled one for a variety of reasons, with Rachel’s casting being met with a near-immediate backlash from certain right-wing critics due to her Latina heritage. She later faced scrutiny due to comments she made about Disney’s animated version of Snow White. The casting of Gal – who is a prolific supporter of Israel amid the current conflict in Gaza, and previously served in the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) – sparked further controversy, and during an interview on the Israeli interview series The A Talks (an Israeli version of The Assembly) last week, she said this was the reason the movie flopped upon its release.Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen in Disney's Snow WhitePer The Jerusalem Post, the former Wonder Woman star claimed she’d “really enjoyed filming this movie” and “even enjoyed working with Rachel Zegler” (herself a vocal supporter of Palestine). She then said: “What’s happening in all kinds of industries, and also in Hollywood, is that there’s a lot of pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel.“[I] can always explain and try to give people in the world context about what’s happening and what the reality is here, but in the end, people decide for themselves. I was disappointed that the movie was greatly affected by that and didn’t do well at the box office.”Over the weekend, Gal’s comments became more widespread, leading her to clarify what she meant in an Instagram story post on Sunday.“Sometimes we respond to questions from an emotional place,” she told her followers. “When the film came out, I felt that those who are against Israel criticised me in a very personal, almost visceral way. They saw me first and foremost as an Israeli, not as an actress.“That’s the perspective I spoke from when I answered the question. There are many factors that determine why a film succeeds or fails, and success is never guaranteed.”Gal Gadot speaks about the Snow White box office failure controversy on her Instagram.“Sometimes we respond to questions from an emotional place. I don’t choose negativity in the face of it. I choose positivity and light and happiness.”READ MORE:Rachel Zegler Reveals How She Really Feels About 'Alarming' Snow White DramaAriana DeBose Speaks Out After Being Accused Of Slating Rachel Zegler In Cryptic Instagram PostSnow White Controversy Escalates Further As Actors With Dwarfism Speak Out Against The Film
