How I Met Your Mother Star Shocks Show's Creator By Revealing Her ‘Sexual’ On-Set Ritual

Cobie and Josh Radnor, who played love interests Robin and Ted on How I Met Your Mother, were talking to Crag on his podcast How We Made Your Mother, when Cobie decided to make a spicy revelation a little over 51 minutes into the episode.“Josh and I had quite a few intimate scenes, and so I would try to, as much as humanly possible, before we would roll, whisper something to Josh that was just extremely inappropriate,” she said.Her co-star eagerly confirmed this, specifying that she’d usually do this while they were filming “post-coital scenes”.“I felt, as a good scene partner, I should lay out what the moment before was. And typically it was what we just did. And usually it was sexual,” Cobie explained.Ted (Josh Radnor) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) during an intimate scene on How I Met Your Mother in 2013.Cobie explained that she did this in order to make sure Josh felt “comfortable” and that they had “a connection” before rolling. “And so I would just sort of set us up before we actually started the scene in our speaking roles, just with like, ‘This is what just transpired between us’,” she recalled. “And usually Josh would not be able to say anything and his face would turn that colour for those who are watching.”Craig immediately informed his listeners that Josh’s face was “turning beet red” as Cobie was telling this story. He also insisted that he “never knew” this was going down on his set.After Cobie’s confession, the host asked her if she had an “appropriately-worded example” of what she’d whisper to Josh, but she shut it down. “Just think of the worst possible thing and that’s really what I [said],” she teased. But Josh decided to help put things into perspective by explaining that their co-star, Neil Patrick Harris, who played womaniser Barney on the show, could utter some “disgusting” things to his co-stars before the cameras rolled – but Cobie took the cake.“Neil has a real ability to be gross,” Josh said. “He is nothing compared to the depravity that Cobie Smulders laid out.”He added: “She would time it in such a way that she would finish saying [it], she would stick the landing, and they would say ‘action,’ and I couldn’t speak.” Josh was so impressed by Cobie’s dirty talk that he even joked she could make a career out of it. “They’re fond memories, but I also was immobilised by Cobie’s visionary. You could monetise this in some way, Cobie, like if acting stops, you know what I’m saying? I think you could write just the filthiest romance novels... I’m telling you, you have a real talent for spinning the dirtiest webs of narrative, it was always shocking to me.
