'It's Pretty Clear': Trump Gives Surprise Update On 2028 'Third Term' Talk
US President Donald Trump speaks to journalists aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea on October 29, 2025 in Japan. President Donald Trump on Wednesday seemed to rule out seeking a third term in 2028, admitting that the Constitution forbids it.“It’s a very interesting thing. I have the best numbers for any president in many years, any president,” he said. “And I would say that if you read it, it’s pretty clear. I’m not allowed to run. It’s too bad, obviously.”Trump on running for a third term: “If you read it, it's pretty clear. I'm not allowed to run. I have the best poll numbers I’ve ever had,” he told reporters. “Am I not ruling it out? I mean, you’ll have to tell me.”Some of his key supporters, however, have been even more explicit. Longtime Trump insider Steve Bannon, one of the architects of his 2016 victory and a White House adviser during part of his first term, insisted last week that another Trump term was in the bag. “He’s gonna get a third term,” Bannon told The Economist. “Trump is gonna be president in ’28, and people just ought to get accommodated with that.”Senator Tommy Tuberville (Republican, Alabama) called a third term “unlikely” but was also open to it.“You know, if you read the Constitution, it says it’s not, but if he says he has some, some different circumstances that might be able to go around the Constitution, but that’s up to him,” Tuberville said, according to The Hill. Other allies, however, have said Trump can’t run again.Trump was asked on Tuesday about House Speaker Mike Johnson (Republican, Louisiana) claim that he was just “trolling” with his 2028 talk. “I don’t think he said that, I don’t think he used that term,” Trump said. Johnson did. “The Trump 2028 cap is one of the most popular that’s ever been produced, and he has a good time with that, trolling the Democrats, whose hair is on fire about the very prospect,” Johnson said. He added that Trump knows a 2028 run isn’t allowed. “It’s been a great run, but I think the president knows — and he and I have talked about — the constrictions of the Constitution,” Johnson said.Related...Trump Just ‘Trolling Democrats’ With Talk Of Third Term, Top Republican ClaimsTrump Shares Post Praising Himself For Saving A Nation That 'Doesn’t Appreciate' HimHunter Biden Goes Scorched-Earth On Trump Cuts: '14 Million People Will Die'
