Putin Minister Finds A New Culprit To Blame For Dragging Out Ukraine War – And It's Not Russia

From left, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz make a call to US President Donald Trump from Kyiv, Ukraine, on Saturday, May 10, 2025.A Russian minister has decided to blame the UK, France and Germany for extending the Ukraine war rather than Vladimir Putin. The Russian president called for direct peace talks with Ukraine in Turkey this Thursday, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed he will be waiting for Putin in Istanbul. But the invitation has widely been dismissed as a ploy as Moscow is refusing to implement a full ceasefire before negotiations.Unsurprisingly, Russian deputy foreign minister Alexander Grushko did not think Putin was to blame for the ongoing war.He told state news agency TASS that it is Ukraine’s western allies, the UK, France and Germany – who visited Kyiv at the weekend for “coalition of the willing” talks – who are slowing down peace negotiations.“It is obvious that these countries continue the policy of extending the conflict,” he said.“If we strip down the double talk which they use to frame their political actions, the main thing they are seeking is Russia’s defeat on the battlefield, Russia’s international isolation, its economic smothering and regime change.“On all four of these fronts, they have failed utterly.“But, nevertheless, this has not cooled their desire to achieve what they want.”The three countries in question have robustly supported Ukraine ever since Putin invaded the country back in February 2022 and isolated Russia on the world stage because of its imperialist land grab. They have consistently pushed for Ukraine to be at the forefront of negotiations to end the war, and, in recent weeks, they have called for Russia to agree to a 30-day ceasefire, like Kyiv, ahead of peace talks. But the Kremlin has insisted there must be negotiations before there can be a ceasefire.Meanwhile, Grushko accused the UK, France and Germany of changing their positions. He said: “As for their positions at the current moment, you know, it is very difficult for me to comment on this because exactly three weeks ago the positions were completely opposite.“I will remind you that French President [Emmanuel] Macron, in addressing the nation, said that France does not support a fragile truce. A truce of 30 days, is it not fragile? So today they say one thing, and tomorrow they will say another.”He said: “But if we assess the European policy on Ukrainian affairs as a whole, it is quite obvious that it is a policy to prolong the conflict and weaken Russia as much as possible.”Related...Is This Really A Turning Point In The Ukraine War – Or Another Kremlin Ploy?Russian Politician Calls Zelenskyy's Latest Putin Request 'Pure Theatrics'Trump Caught Off Guard By Basic World Cup Question About Russia: ‘Didn’t Know That’
