Yet Another Blow For Starmer As Labour Hit New Low In Polls

Yet Another Blow For Starmer As Labour Hit New Low In Polls
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer views a screening during a visit to Yash Raj Films, in Mumbai, India, Wednesday Oct. 8, 2025. Keir Starmer was hit with yet more bad news for his government this morning as a new poll revealed Labour have sunk to their lowest ratings yet.According to YouGov, Labour have dropped down three points in just the last week to 17%, meaning they are level with the Tories – and trailing Reform UK (on 27%) by 10 points. The party’s sudden drop over the last seven days means they are also just one point away from the Greens (16%) who climbed up by a point themselves. The Lib Dems, meanwhile, remain on 15%.Patrick English, director of political analytics at YouGov, told HuffPost UK: “There is deep public frustration with the government right now, and these results – while they remain just one poll – are a reflection of that.“To have four parties within touching distance of one another is extremely rare and goes to show the level and extent of fragmentation in British politics right now. Everything is highly unstable and uncertain.“However, a single mid-term poll is not a forecast, and it would be wise to wait and see what the longer-term trend is. We are many years away from a general election, and so much can change between now and then.”Co-deputy leader of the Green Party, Mothin Ali said: “When we said we were here to replace Labour and take the fight to Reform we meant it.“People are flocking to the Greens because they see we are the party pushing for bold change and are making hope normal again.“We have now surged beyond 150,000 members – a more than 100% increase in just over a month.“In the same period our poll ratings have shot up to their highest ever YouGov showing and the Green Party is now within touching distance of Labour.”Labour said they avoid commenting on polls as the results tend to change frequently. The disastrous result follows HuffPost UK reporting that senior Labour figures now believe Keir Starmer’s time in No.10 is already drawing to a close. In a telling sign of just how unpopular this government is with the public, Labour lost their seat in Caerphilly’s Senedd by-election last week. The Welsh constituency had been Labour for more than 100 years, but in a shocking twist, the party came in third with just 11% behind Plaid Cymru and Reform UK when voters hit the ballot box on Thursday. This has added to speculation that Starmer is on his way out.As one insider told HuffPost UK on Saturday: “The chances of him being gone by Christmas is massively under-priced. People will let the Budget happen at the end of November, and then there could be a move against him.“If a new leader comes in then and puts 5% on the polls, suddenly things look a lot better.”Related...'Starmer Has A Chance To Go Big On Delivering Climate Action – And He Must Not Wimp Out'Keir Starmer's Asylum Seeker Woes Just Keep Getting WorseWes Streeting Piles More Pressure On Keir Starmer In Wake Of Labour's By-Election Humiliation
