Trump Told Zelenskyy To Hand Over Ukraine Territory Or Be 'Destroyed' By Russia

Volodymyr Zelenskyy sits before a lunch with President Donald Trump and JD Vance in the Cabinet Room of the White House.Donald Trump told Volodymyr Zelenskyy to give up huge swathes of Ukraine or face being “destroyed” by Russia, it has been reported.According to the Financial Times, the US president shouted and swore during an angry meeting in the White House last Friday.The talks took place two days after Trump held a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin in which the pair agreed to meet in Budapest.Zelenskyy had gone into the White House meeting hoping to persuade Trump to sell Ukraine long-range Tomahawk missiles to allow Kyiv to strike deep into Russian territory.Although he had previously hinted that he may be ready to do so, Trump turned down the request and said he would prefer to see an end to the war – which began with Russia’s invasion in 2022 – instead.Sources told the Financial Times that the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting escalated into an argument several times, with the president “constantly using obscene language”.Trump also threw out maps showing the current battle lines in the war, at one point saying he was “fed up” seeing them again and again.“That red line, I don’t even know where it is. I’ve never been there,” he reportedly said.Trump said Ukraine should give up the whole of Ukraine’s Donbas region, including areas that Russia does not already control – a key demand of Vladimir Putin.“Putin said he would destroy Ukraine if you don’t agree,” Trump reportedly told Zelenskyy.Bizarrely, the president also said the Russian economy “is doing great”, despite recently stating that it was being destroyed by the war.“The meeting ended with [Trump’s] decision to make a ‘deal where we are, on the demarcation line’,” Reuters reported.Confirming his new stance on board Air Force One on Sunday night, Trump told reporters: “We think that what they should do is just stop at the lines where they are, the battle lines. The rest is very tough to negotiate if you’re going to say, ‘you take this, we take that’.”Trump’s new position is a major U-turn from last month, when he claimed Russia’s economy was “in big trouble” and said Ukraine could win back all of the territory it had lost in the war.In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said: “Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years a War that should have taken a Real Military Power less than a week to win.“This is not distinguishing Russia. In fact, it is very much making them look like ‘a paper tiger’.”He added: “Ukraine would be able to take back their Country in its original form and, who knows, maybe even go further than that! Putin and Russia are in BIG Economic trouble, and this is the time for Ukraine to act. In any event, I wish both Countries well. We will continue to supply weapons to NATO for NATO to do what they want with them.
