Trump White House Joins Bluesky And Instantly Earns A Very Dubious Distinction
The Trump White House has taken its fight to Bluesky, the decentralised social media platform that became a haven for Donald Trump/MAGA critics and the political left after Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter-now-X.But its debut went awkwardly awry. The administration’s first post — a 52-second montage of what it called the president’s “greatest hits” since returning to the Oval Office, featuring some of his mocking online posts and his boasts about making America great again — was met with mockery, equal trolling and demands for the release of the so-called Epstein Files.See the post here.According to Bluesky analytics site VQV, the official White House account quickly became the platform’s second-most blocked profile, with around 95,000 users smashing the block button to presumably pre-empt their feeds being filled with AI slop and divisive rants. The only account with more blocks on the platform is Vice President JD Vance, who’s been blocked by more than 167,000 users since joining in June.“What’s up, Bluesky? We thought you might’ve missed some of our greatest hits, so we put this together for you,” the White House wrote in its launch post, adding: “Can’t wait to spend more quality time together!” As of early Monday, the White House’s account had about 11,500 followers. For comparison, the platform’s most-followed user is Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with 2.1 million.
