Wicked Shares Behind-The-Scenes Clip Of Man Who 'Played The Broomstick' And We're Obsessed

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in WickedThe world is still recovering from Wicked mania and all of the chaos that the movie musical brought with it – we’re talking “holding space”, more tearful junket interviews than anyone could have anticipated, show-stoppingred carpet fashion moments and pretty much everyone on TikTok trying out Elphaba’s “battle cry” for themselves.And folks – we’re about to do it all over again when the sequel Wicked For Good hits cinemas later this year.With a few months left to go, the team behind Wicked is tiding us over with some fun behind-the-scenes footage, and one clip in particular has really caught our attention.Director Jon M Chu has spoken before about how he preferred using on-set practical effects in Wicked rather than CGI wherever possible, and that evidently included during Cynthia Erivo’s big number, Defying Gravity.In a clip posted on the film’s Instagram this week, it was revealed that Elphaba’s flying broom was achieved through having a member of the crew dressed head-to-toe in a bluescreen suit and manipulating the broom himself, to make it look as though it were flying.View this post on InstagramA post shared by Wicked: For Good (@wickedmovie)Jon M Chu later reposted a picture of the crew member in question, Charlie, sharing a hug with Cynthia and her co-star Ariana Grande.“His name is Charlie,” the filmmaker wrote on his Instagram story. “He played the broomstick.
