Fed Approves Santander's Webster Bank Acquisition
The U.S. Federal Reserve has authorized Banco Santander to proceed with its acquisition of Webster Bank. The deal, valued at over $12 billion, is expected to close by August 20 and aims to strengthen Santander's U.S. business.
Santander Profit Jumps 31% to 8.97 Billion Euros
Banco Santander's first-half net profit rose 31% to 8.97 billion euros, driven by the sale of its Polish business. Excluding extraordinary items, profit increased 15% to 7.33 billion euros. The acquisition of TSB in the UK also contributed.
Ana Botín is the chairwoman of Banco Santander, a major Spanish multinational banking group.
