Doctor Who stars Ncuti Gatwa and Billie PiperA question mark has been hovering over Doctor Who’s future for the last few months, but it sounds like fans of the franchise’s latest output can finally breathe a sigh of relief.Rumours have been swirling about whether or not Doctor Who would remain on the air ever since The Sun reported in February that a decision about its future had not yet been made, and claimed that the BBC was considering “shelving the series for at least five years” (a spokesperson for the broadcaster later insisted to HuffPost UK that “Doctor Who has not been shelved”).Speculation continued when it was confirmed that Ncuti Gatwa had stepped away from the series after two seasons at the helm of the Tardis, with showrunner Russell T Davies subsequently admitting that he and the team still “don’t know what’s happening yet”.However, speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival this week, The Guardian reported that the BBC’s content chief, Kate Phillips, had insisted Doctor Who would be staying put, even if its recent co-production deal with Disney+ does come to an end.“Any Whovians out there, rest assured: Doctor Who is going nowhere,” she told fans.“Disney has been a great partnership and it continues with The War Between The Land And The Sea [a new Doctor Who spin-off] next year.
