UK Reveals Ukraine's Latest Attacks On Russia As Trump Appears To Call For New War Tactics

Soldiers training near Kharkiv, Ukraine.The UK has revealed just how effective one of Kyiv’s recent attacks on Russia was shortly after Donald Trump called for Ukraine to “play offence”.The US president is currently trying to set up a bilateral meeting between Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russia’s Vladimir Putin in a bid to end the war.But, even as Trump seems to support ending the conflict on Putin’s terms, Moscow is still refusing to commit to any such summit and keeps delaying peace negotiations.The president then posted on TruthSocial on Thursday that Ukraine has not been “allowed to play offence”.He wrote: “It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invaders country. “It’s like a great team in sports that has a fantastic defence, but is not allowed to play offense. There is no chance of winning!“It is like that with Ukraine and Russia. Crooked and grossly incompetent Joe Biden would not let Ukraine FIGHT BACK, only DEFEND.“How did that work out? Regardless, this is a war that would have NEVER happened if I were President - ZERO CHANCE. Interesting times ahead!!!”The ambiguous post was followed by a photo of Trump appearing to poke Putin in the chest.In its most recent update on X, the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) looked at just how Ukraine is trying to strike at the heart of Russian territory.It revealed that Ukraine’s General Staff reported a drone strike against a Russian cargo vessel on August 14 which was carrying equipment and ammunition from Iran. The attack left the ship “partially submerged”.The vessel is known for regularly carrying materials between Iran and Russia.The MoD said: “The strike on the vessel, approximately 640km from Ukraine’s borders, highlights the continuation of Ukraine’s regular UAS strikes deep into Russian territory and emphasises the difficulties for Russian air defence in protecting both military and industry locations within range of Ukraine’s ever improving UAS capabilities.”The intelligence officials said Iran has supplied artillery munitions, ballistic missiles, and plenty of one-way attack drones along with extensive support to Russian domestic manufacture of such weaponry.However, Moscow is slowly becoming less reliant on these imports.“Russia’s reliance on Iranian UAS [drone] related support for Russia’s war against Ukraine has likely decreased in 2025 as Russian proficiency in domestic UAS development and production has increased,” the MoD said.Ukraine has also been attacking Russian oil refineries recently, strikes which were opposed by Trump’s predecessor Joe Biden, who feared the turbulence that could bring to the international oil market and that it could escalate the war.Trump also asked Zelenskyy in July: “Volodymyr, can you hit Moscow?… Can you hit St Petersburg too?”The Ukrainian president allegedly said he could if he was given the right weapons from the West.However, the White House told the BBC that Trump was “merely asking a question, not encouraging further killing”.Latest Defence Intelligence update on the situation in Ukraine - 22 August 2025.Find out more about Defence Intelligence's use of language: https://t.co/2Fgwkfm4pV#StandWithUkrainepic.twitter.com/TYqhvbFd50— Ministry of Defence 🇬🇧 (@DefenceHQ) August 22, 2025Related...Putin Has Allegedly Laid Out His Demands For Ending The Ukraine WarTrump Accuses ‘Crooked’ Biden Of Not Letting Ukraine ‘Fight Back’ Against RussiaTop Putin Ally Scorns Trump's 'Clumsy' Peace Talks With Ukraine And European Leaders
