Putin Has Allegedly Laid Out His Demands For Ending The Ukraine War
Russia's President Vladimir Putin speaks during a news conference at Joint Base Elmendorf- Richardson, Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, in Anchorage, Alaska.Vladimir Putin has decided exactly what he wants in exchange for ending his brutal war in Ukraine, according to reports. It comes after the Russian president had a face-to-face meeting with Donald Trump in Alaska last Friday. The US leader was meant to be pressuring Putin to end the conflict, but instead ended up rolling out the red carpet, dropping his own demands for a ceasefire and, within a matter of days, falsely blaming Ukraine for starting the war. It’s widely believed Moscow has no intention of putting a stop to the violence – especially since Putin is still making progress on the frontline – but Russian sources now claim that the Kremlin could be willing to compromise.According to Reuters news agency, Putin wants Ukraine to give up the entirety of its eastern Donbas region. The three sources close to the Kremlin claimed this proved Putin is making concessions on the territorial demands he laid out in June 2024.At the time, he wanted Ukraine to cede the whole of the four provinces Moscow has occupied since its invasion in 2022 – Donetsk and Luhansk, which make up the Donbas, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia – which Ukraine rejected at the time.Putin is now offering to freeze the frontlines in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia as long as the whole of the Donbas goes to Russia. This is not much of a compromise. The US estimates claim Russia currently holds around 88% of the Donbas and 73% of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.Putin also holds around 20% of Ukraine’s total sovereign land, including Crimea which was annexed by Russia in 2014.The sources claimed Moscow is also content to hand over small parts of three other Ukrainian regions, Kharkiv, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk, which it has seized during its three and a half year invasion.Putin still wants Ukraine to renounce ambitions to join Nato, though, and a legally-binding promise from the defence alliance that it will not try and move further east.He wants Ukraine to remain neutral with limits on its army size, and also pledges that no Western troops would be deployed into the country as peacekeepers – a commitment which would derail Keir Starmer’s pledge to do just that with his international “coalition of the willing”. According to Reuters, Ukraine’s foreign ministry had no immediate response to the alleged plans. However, Kyiv has consistently rejected any plans to give up land, saying to do so would go against Ukraine’s constitution. Joining Nato has also been part of the country’s constitution for years, as a major security goal.Putin’s top diplomat Sergei Lavrov threw another spanner in the works this week, when he declared that Russia needed to have a say in what security guarantees Ukraine was given.Related...Trump's America Just Gave Putin Another Free Pass On The World StagePutin Is Teaching Russian Children How To Fly Military Drones, UK SaysTrump Backtracks In Embarrassing Move After Meetings With Zelenskyy And Putin
