Donald Trumps Tells The BBC He Is 'Disappointed But Not Done' With Putin ... Yet
President Donald Trump speaks during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office.Donald Trump has said he is “disappointed but not done” with Vladimir Putin as the Russian president continues to bomb Ukraine despite saying he wants peace.The US president hinted that his patience had almost run out with his counterpart in a surprise interview with the BBC.Gary O’Donoghue, the corporation’s North America correspondent, was woken in the middle of the night to be told Trump wanted to speak to him.During a wide-ranging interview, the reporter asked the president if he was “done with” Putin after the Russian president reneged on a peace deal on four separate occasions.Trump said: “I’m not done with him but I’m disappointed in him. I thought we had a deal done four times and then you go home and you see he just attacked a nursing home or something in Kyiv. I said what the hell was that all about?”Asked if he trusted Putin, the president replied: “I trust almost nobody, to be honest with you.“It’s not a question of that. It’s like I’m disappointed that this hasn’t been done.”Trump’s comments came after he set a 50-day deadline for Putin to agree to a peace deal or face 100% tariffs on Russian exports to America.Speakign as he held talks with Nato general secretary Mark Rutte in the Oval Office, Trump said: “I’m disappointed in President Putin because I thought we’d have had a deal two months ago, but it doesn’t seem to get there.“So based on that we’re going to be doing secondary tariffs if we don’t have a deal in 50 days, it’s very simple.
