Tory Tory Can't Answer Painfully Easy Question About Conservatives In Wales
Christopher Hope and Chris PhilpChris Philp was left rather red-faced on Sunday when he was unable to name the Tories’ own leader in Wales live on air.The shadow home secretary, who has been at the forefront of the party for years, failed on six occasions to identify Darren Millar, who became leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Senedd last December.Philp ended up telling GB News that the “name escapes me” before presenter Christopher Hope had to step in and tell him.The embarrassing incident happened days after the Tories won just 2% of the vote in a by-election in Caerphilly, coming in behind Plaid Cymru (47.4%), Reform UK (36%) and Labour (11%).Their clash began when Hope noticed Philp was avoiding saying Millar’s name, before pointedly asking: “I’ve got to ask you again, what is the name of the Tory leader in Wales?”“We’ve got a new leader, Kemi Badenoch –” Philp said.“You know her name, but who is the new leader of Wales?” Hope cut in. “If you don’t know, you can say.”Philp continued to ignore the question, as Hope again: “If you don’t know you can say – who is the leader of the Welsh Tories?”There was a lull before Philp said: “I’ve been explaining our positive programme...”The two went around in circles for a while longer before Philp admitted: “I’m afraid the name escapes me.”Hope replied with clear exasperation: “He’s called Darren Miller, and that does matter because the party is disappearing rapidly into the sand of the Welsh beach.“When will you start governing for the whole country? You’re going back into your heartlands of England. Wales is now lost to you it seems and next May’s elections will be a disaster.”Philp just insisted his party is governing for the whole of the UK.'Who is the leader of the Welsh Tories in Wales? You don't know!'@ChristopherHope corners Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp MP as he tries to evade a question on who leads the Conservative Party in Wales. pic.twitter.com/DQSNzAjm11— GB News (@GBNEWS) October 26, 2025Related...Analysis: Caerphilly By-Election Result Shows How Nigel Farage Could Be Reform's Achilles HeelThe Greens Now Have More Members Than The Tories As Support SurgesExclusive: Greens Plan To 'Overtake Tories And Replace Labour' As Support Surges
