Trump's Disapproval Rating Is Highest It's Been This Term

President Donald Trump is the most unpopular he’s been this term,according to a recent Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll.In the poll, which was conducted between October 24 to 28, 59% of US adults said they disapproved of Trump’s handling of the presidency, while 41 percent approved. His disapproval hasn’t hit this level in The Post’s survey since January 2021, the publication reports.Similarly, an NBC News poll conducted between October 24 to 28 found that 55 percent of registered voters disapproved of Trump’s leadership, while 43 percent approved. And according to a polling tracker from The New York Times, which averages results from different surveys, Trump’s disapproval rating has steadily climbed since his inauguration and is at 55 percent, a high for his second term. The growing disapproval of Trump’s presidency comes as voters express significant concerns over his use of executive power, his deployment of the National Guard to different US cities and his brutal immigration enforcement policies. Thus far, Trump’s utilised executive actions to impose a range of policies including tariffs and directives to shutter the Department of Education. He’s also backed harrowing ICE raids and detention practices, while attempting to send troops to multiple places under the pretense of aiding federal agents. According to The Washington Post survey, 56% of US adults disapproved of Trump’s handling of immigration, while 63% said the same about his management of the federal government. Sixty-four per cent of adults also felt like he had gone too far in his expansion of the powers of the presidency and 55% said he’d similarly overstepped in his decision to send National Guard troops to various cities. In the NBC News survey, 54% of voters said they felt Trump’s National Guard deployments were not justified, and 50% of voters said they viewed Immigration and Customs Enforcement negatively.Trump’s vulnerabilities could present an opportunity for Democrats as the midterms approach in 2026, though polls suggest the party needs to address its own perceptions among voters as well. According to the NBC News survey, 50% of registered voters want Democrats to win Congressional control next year compared to 42% who want the same for Republicans. Only 28% of registered voters say they have a positive view of the Democratic Party, however.
