Will Wednesday Get A Season 3 On Netflix? Here's Everything We Know
Jenna Ortega in the latest season of WednesdayAfter we were treated to eight woe-filled new episodes, a raft of fresh cast members and even a much-hyped cameo from music royalty, naturally fans who have already devoured the entirety of Wednesday season two have been left wondering when the next instalment will be arriving. The second batch of episodes in season two of the record-breakingNetflix smash starring Jenna Ortega dropped this week, meaning the series is firmly back in the top spot of the streamer’s most-watched rankings. But if you can’t quite fathom the idea of another three years waiting for a new season, rest assured we can make a pretty confident estimate that it won’t be quite such a long slog this time. Here’s everything we know about season three so far…Firstly, there definitely is going to be a season threeThankfully, Netflix reassured fans before season two had even come out that there would, indeed, be a third outing in the franchise. The streaming giant confirmed the news on social media over the summer, sharing a teaser image of Wednesday holding a spooky crystal ball with the number three on it, along with the tagline: “Bad things come in threes.”She would never leave you hanging. Wednesday has been officially renewed for Season 3. Season 2 awakens in two weeks. pic.twitter.com/wsmzWHDnjm— Netflix (@netflix) July 23, 2025Wednesday season three will (hopefully) be here sooner than season two wasIn their announcement post, Netflix wrote that “season three is the next omen, already in motion, already inevitable”.So, if we’re to go by that ominous clue, it sounds like the next season is already very much in the works. While season two took three years to arrive, there was actually a good reason for the delay since the 2023 writers’ strikes put many TV productions on pause across the industry.According to What’s On Netflix (which cited the trade publication Production Weekly), Netflix is reportedly looking to start filming season three in the second quarter of 2026.With those dates in mind, and keeping a very optimistic outlook, we might be looking at a 2027 release. What will Wednesday season three be about?Plot details are, of course, still much under wraps at the moment, but showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar did shed some light in a statement published in Deadline.“It’s been a dark delight to watch Wednesday cast her spell over audiences across the globe – one deadpan quip at a time,” they said. “We’re beyond thrilled she’ll be returning to stalk the halls of Nevermore in season three.“This time, she’ll unearth more of the school’s sinister secrets – and descend even deeper into the Addams family crypt. Or, as Wednesday would say: ‘Nothing brings a family together like a good exhumation’.”Luis Guzmán, Jenna Ortega and Catherine Zeta-Jones in season two of WednesdayIn a statement to Netflix’s Tudum, Alfred also said their goals for season three are “the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can”.He added that they “want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday”, with Miles teasing that we will be “seeing more Addams family members and learning more family secrets in season three”.Could Netflix release a Wednesday spinoff in the future, too?It also sounds like the Wednesday creative team are even looking at the long-term future of the record-breaking franchise. As part a joint interview with star Jenna and director and executive producer Tim Burton in The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Alfred Gough said in a statement that a spinoff is “something we’re definitely noodling” claiming there are plenty of “other characters we can look at”.The first two seasons of Wednesday are available to watch on Netflix now.MORE WEDNESDAY:11 Behind-The-Scenes Secrets You Probably Didn't Know About How Wednesday Season 2 Was MadeWednesday Star Hunter Doohan Had 1 Big Question Before Filming His Viral Shirtless ScenesThought The New Stars Of Wednesday Season 2 Looked Familiar?
