'A Car Crash': Nigel Farage Slammed For Praising Trump And Thatcher During US Trip

Farage with Trump in the Oval Office yesterday.Nigel Farage has been slammed after he lavished praise on Donald Trump and Margaret Thatcher during his trip to the United States.The Reform UK leader even posted a picture of himself with the US president – who is deeply unpopular in Britain – in the Oval Office on X.Earlier, he had been branded a “Putin-loving Trump wannabe” as he appeared in front of a House Judiciary Committee investigation into free speech in Europe.In a speech in Washington last night, Farage predicted that with Reform leading in the opinion polls, he will become prime minister at the next general election.But it was his comments on Thatcher which are likely to prove controversial voters who remember the damage done to Britain’s industrial heartlands when she was PM in the 1980s.Farage said: “We’re in deep, deep trouble, but we know it can be turned around. We know Margaret Thatcher turned Britain around. And that is what we’re going to do. We’re going to turn it around.”He added: ”[Americans and Brits] read the same books, we watch the same movies, we listen to the same music, we share a language, and our countries are closer than ever.“You know, back in the 1980s, Margaret Thatcher always said, when the US and the UK are close, the world is a better and safer place. And she was right.”Nigel Farage shows a mug that was presented to him before signing a book of condolence for Margaret Thatcher after her death on 2013.Farage said he was “the only figure from the other side of the parliament that has consistently stood behind Trump, and stood behind the MAGA movement”. He said: I have never wavered in my thoughts or my views for one minute, even when it was an unpopular thing to do. And great things are happening here, I think, in many, many ways.“I think the Brexit result directly led to much of the momentum that got Trump to win in 2016 and I was proud to come and speak at rallies for the president.” A Labour source said: “This US jamboree is turning into a car crash for Farage.“First he’s humiliated in front of US politicians, unable to answer the most basic of questions left gasping for air like a fish on a river bank.
