Is Ncuti Gatwa Done With Doctor Who? His 3-Word Reply Says It All
Ncuti Gatwa in An Adventure In Space And TimeNcuti Gatwa has opened up about his reasoning behind leaving Doctor Who after just two seasons. The Sex Education star departed from his role as the Fifteenth Doctor after the season finale back in May, bringing his short tenure as the Time Lord to an end.During the final episode, he regenerated into Billie Piper, though it hasn’t been officially announced whether she will take over as the next Doctor.Speaking out in a new interview on the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, the Barbie actor revealed his reasoning for leaving the beloved show.“Because I’m getting old and my body was tired,” the 32-year-old explained. “I’ve now just started doing some ballet, so I’m making some good decisions here.”He continued: “It’s the most amazing job in the world, a job that any actor would dream of and – because it’s so good – it’s strenuous. It takes a lot out of you, physically, emotionally, mentally, and so it was time.”Asked whether he would ever return to the show, he replied: “Never say never.”He echoed sentiments previously expressed in a behind-the-scenes feature shared to YouTube, sharing: “It was always the plan to do this amount of seasons, because it’s a role that demands a lot of you, physically and emotionally and mentally.”Back in May, the BBC insisted that claims of Ncuti being “axed” from the show were “pure fiction”.Elsewhere in his BBC interview, Ncuti addressed why he pulled out of his role as the UK’s spokesperson at the Eurovision Song Contest at the eleventh hour.“It all panned out very interestingly. I pulled out of it a long time before it was announced,” he said. “And it was announced when it was announced, I don’t know why, but I was just very busy.”He explained that his work schedule was packed, including numerous press engagements for Doctor Who and his new movie The Roses. When host Laura noted that there had been controversy around Israel’s participation and asked if that played a part in his departure, Ncuti replied: “No, I was just very busy.”Asked whether he even watched the show, he said:  “I didn’t, no, I was busy.”In his place, Sophie Ellis-Bextor was announced to present the jury’s scores at the competition instead.Ncuti’s next project is a role in The Roses, a remake of the 1989 divorce comedy The War Of The Roses coming out this summer starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman in the lead roles.Related...Who Will Play James Bond Next? 17 Actors Who've Been Rumoured For The RoleGermany's Broadcaster Responds To Reports They'll Leave Eurovision If Israel Is Banned9 Billie Piper Roles You'd Probably Forgotten She Once Played
