Jennifer Aniston's Reason For Never Attending The Met Gala Is Surprisingly Relatable

Jennifer Aniston, seen here in New York City on July 29, explained why the Met Gala isn't her thing in a new interview with Glamour magazine.Jennifer Aniston’s reason for always skipping the Met Gala actually makes perfect sense.The Morning Show star opened up about why she’s never attended the biggest night in fashion during an interview for Glamour magazine’s September issue, where she said the event is just too high-pressure for her to RSVP.Although Jen said she has been invited to the Met Ball in the past – and regularly attends other red carpet events, like the Golden Globes or the Emmys – she admitted the whole ordeal “overwhelms” her.“It’s the getting ready, the putting on the dress,” she said. “I’m a ‘jeans and flip-flops and tank top’ kind of girl.”While the Friends icon said she loves “dressing up,” she said that getting ready for the Met Gala felt like it would be too much of a “mental game”.“Let’s get dressed up, put on a fancy dress, makeup, get your hair all ‘purdy’ and go sit in a big room with your peers,” she said of all the preparation that has to go into the evening.Jen told Glamour she understands that “everyone’s there to celebrate each other and have some fun,” but that the thought of attending the VIP event still makes her “nervous”.Sharing how past experiences with the press shaped those feelings, she said: “I even get a little anxious about public speaking, especially over the years of having your words twisted and taken out of context.”The sitcom legend admitted that those situations made her self-conscious, saying sometimes she feels like she’s “almost hall-monitoring” herself “in a weird way”.“In the past, journalism used to be gnarly and they wanted to just get you and find something that they can then run forever,” she said. “But whatever.
