Sabrina Carpenter Reacts To Man's Best Friend Album Cover Controversy
Sabrina Carpenter on stage at the Brit Awards in MarchSabrina Carpenter has shared her take on the controversy surrounding her Man’s Best Friend album artwork.Over the summer, the Grammy winner came under fire from some critics when she unveiled the cover for her latest album, which depicted her on her knees in front of an unidentified, presumably male figure, who was seen gripping a section of her hair, while she faced out towards the camera. While some felt this sent out the wrong message to Sabrina’s younger fans, others defended the Espresso singer, claiming that the picture was using a provocative picture to make a satirical point. My new album, “Man’s Best Friend” 🐾is out on August 29, 2025.i can’t wait for it to be yours x Pre-order now: https://t.co/E7QJWhYV2Dpic.twitter.com/UXVLzBQTj4— Sabrina Carpenter (@SabrinaAnnLynn) June 11, 2025Sabrina was asked about the furore during a recent conversation for Interview magazine, in which editor Mel Ottenberg asked the singer if she got “the reaction you wanted” from the cover.“That is such a great question,” she responded with a laugh. “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t do anything anticipating what the reaction will be. I only do things that speak to me, that feel right, and make sense when you hear the music. “When I came up with the imaging for it, it was so clear to me what it meant. So the reaction is fascinating to me. You just watch it unravel and go, ‘Wow’.”Later in the interview, she added: “The image, the way I see it, is a metaphor, but I’m sure that other people are like, ‘Dang, she’s a sub?’.”Sabrina previously shared her take on the fall-out during an interview with CBS Mornings last week.“Y’all need to get out more, I think,” she remarked, when host Gayle King asked Sabrina for “her reaction to their reaction”. “I was actually shocked [by the controversy] because I think between me and my friends and my family and the people that I always share my music and my art with first, it just wasn’t even a conversation. It was just like, ‘[the cover is] perfect, for what the album is, it’s perfect for what it represents’.“Everything about it to me just felt so opposite of the world ending.”Asked more specifically about her “intention” and the “message you’re trying to say”, Sabrina responded: “To me, it’s so up to interpretation… but my interpretation is being in on the control – being in on your lack of control, and when you want to be in control. I think as a young woman, you’re just aware of when you’re in control as when you’re not.”View this post on InstagramA post shared by CBS Mornings (@cbsmornings)Man’s Best Friend was released last week, and is currently on track to become Sabrina’s second number one album in the UK.It was accompanied by the new music video for her latest single Tears, which takes inspiration from The Rocky Horror Show, and is already generating a lot of conversation online.Read Sabrina Carpenter’s full conversation in Interview magazine here.READ MORE:Colman Domingo Shuts Down Conservative Backlash To His Appearance In Sabrina Carpenter's Provocative New VideoMiley Cyrus Names 1 Reason She's Concerned For Sabrina CarpenterThank You To Sabrina Carpenter For Reminding Everyone That Pop Is Supposed To Be Provocative
