Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 Reviews: What Are Critics Saying?
Jenna Ortega in character as Wednesday AddamsAfter splitting Wednesday’s long-awaited second season in half, Netflix has finally released the next four instalments of the much-loved teen drama. These new episodes pick up where the first half’s cliffhanger ending left off, and also include Lady Gaga’s mysterious cameo, with critics saying there’s plenty for existing Wednesday fans to get excited about when they get streaming. However, many also felt that the show has bitten off a little more than it can chew in terms of its plot twists and ever-growing cast, with certain characters feeling underused and storylines being rushed through. That being said, the consensus is still mostly positive, as you can see for yourself in the excerpts below…Metro (3.5/5) “You can’t fault this cast of heavyweights. There are just too, too many of them. The woe-centric second season might not quite have a sophomore slump, but it’s certainly contracted a case of sophomore swell [...] The real travesty is that this is often at the expense of Jenna Ortega’s exceptional screentime, not to mention a truly woeful dearth of Thing-content.”The Telegraph (4/5) “It is fair to say that Gaga fans tuning in to see the pop icon gracing The Addams Family spin-off are likely to be underwhelmed [...] The Gaga saga aside, the concluding quartet of instalments feature bumper quantities of Wednesday’s deliciously mordant thrills.”The Mirror“The finale itself is a little fast in pace, with bombshell after bombshell dropping before the viewer has time to comprehend each one. In saying this, the impeccable storytelling means each new revelation is easy to follow, meaning fans will not be left perplexed. Each new secret unveiled is circled back to, leaving the audience ready and waiting for the already-confirmed third season.”Collider (7/10) “The series leans too far into finding surprising twists that aren’t necessarily set up properly in a way that’s satisfying. The bones are there, the show is full of talent both in front of and behind the camera, and the Addams family is a beloved IP, but lacking a strong focus ends up making Season 2 scattered.”TheWrap“At its best, Wednesday is campy and fun, or spooky and disturbing. At times, and definitely in these last episodes, Wednesday can get bogged down in convoluted plots that don’t always materialize in satisfying ways, with some storylines that feel drawn out.”Forbes“These last four episodes are excellent [...] Lady Gaga’s cameo is brief but fun, though I’m sad to report that Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester only makes a very brief appearance. And the Willow Hill thread trails off in a bit of a weird way, making room for the true villains of Season 2. I wonder if one more episode might have been needed to truly do that storyline justice.”Both seasons of Wednesday are now streaming in full on Netflix.MORE WEDNESDAY:11 Behind-The-Scenes Secrets You Probably Didn't Know About How Wednesday Season 2 Was MadeWednesday Star Hunter Doohan Had 1 Big Question Before Filming His Viral Shirtless ScenesThought The New Stars Of Wednesday Season 2 Looked Familiar?
