Reform Tells Men To Use Female Toilets Despite Advocating For Single-Sex Spaces
Laila Cunningham, Andrea Jenkyns, Sarah Pochin and Linden Kemkaran pose at the Reform UK press conference.Reform UK told men to use the same toilets as women – despite speaking about the importance of single sex spaces. The apparent double standards took place as the right-wing party held a press conference in Westminster about cracking down on violence against women and girls. The use of toilets has become a hot-button issue ever since the Supreme Court ruled that a woman is legally defined by biological sex, sparking a wider debate about what public facilities a trans person can use.In Reform’s manifesto, it also calls for a ban on what it calls a “transgender ideology” and insists “schools must have single sex facilities”.Linden Kemkaran, the Reform leader of Kent Council Council, echoed this messaging today, saying: “It is a fact that allowing biological men into women’s spaces has made women and girls in the UK less safe.”She added that this has “without a doubt, caused women and girls to be less safe, not just in Kent but in the UK as a whole.”Kemkaran said this “belief” has been “actively and at times aggressively pushed on us by politicians, the media and our state institutions, but biological men pretending to be women should be allowed into female only single sex spaces.”When the unusual toilet situation was pointed out to her, Kemkaran told reporters: “Yes, there’s a press conference on, because we don’t want pesky journalists roaming around the Reform HQ for obvious reasons.“So that’s the nearest toilet to the press conference room.”Asked if that means other places can adopt the same policy, she replied: “Well, this is for one occasion only, isn’t it?“There’s a toilet there. It makes sense for everyone to use that toilet, so you don’t have to be escorted around the building. It’s simply not practical.”It was then pointed out to Kemkaran that there are other examples, such as gyms, where it would also be impractical to insist on single-sex spaces. She replied: “I think you’re confusing two things. You’re confusing unisex toilets, which are there for anyone to use, with women’s toilets, which are there for just women.“Today, these have been temporarily turned from women’s toilets into unisex toilets. It’s clear everybody knows about it. “What I object to is when you’ve got a women’s toilet for women, biological women, being used by men who think they’re women. That’s where the problem starts.”Reminded that the facility in question is the only toilet available for women to use on that floor, and features a female logo on the outside, a Reform spokesperson said: “There’s a sign over that because like you said, we’re not going to allow everyone to walk around the office.”Kemkaran added: “This is what’s wrong with this country. You’re talking about a toilet, and we’re talking about women who have been put at risk of uncontrolled migration. Do you want to ask me some sensible questions about that?”It comes after Farage refused to say whether or not he believed trans women should be sent to women’s prisons last week. When his new advisor Vanessa Frake suggested cases should be assessed on “an individual basis”, Farage said: “I personally never worked in a prison, so I can’t answer.”Following backlash from women’s rights campaigners including JK Rowling, Farage backtracked on X, writing: “I have never supported men in women’s prisons.”Related...Ex-Reform MP Tried To Sound Alarm Over A Migrant Dinghy – But Got The Wrong End Of The Stick EntirelyKemi Badenoch Brands Nigel Farage 'A Bulls*****r' In Foul-Mouthed RantGreen Party Hopeful Hits Out At Rival's Eco-Populist Pitch With Farage Comparison
